Duncrahill takes mares in for A.I., Foaling & Weaning.

Duncrahill Stud has been breeding and foaling mares for over 35 years. The experience gained over that time, along with its suitable grazing facilities and adapted farm buildings, makes the setup at Duncrahill ideal to offer a foaling service for owners who are unable to monitor their mare in the last weeks of pregnancy.

A limited number of mares are taken in annually prior to foaling, through foaling and for a post foaling period until it is appropriate to travel the mare and foal home.

We can also take mares and foals in for weaning at a time that is suitable for you. Weaning foals can be a highly stressful ordeal but with our excellent spacious facilities and depth of knowledge we can make this process as stress free as possible.

Equine Artificial Insemination Breeding.

Duncrahill Stud, in conjunction with Glen Watson MRCVS, of Links Veterinary Group, Haddington, East Lothian offer an equine artificial insemination services for mares, using chilled semen.

Equine A.I. is becoming more widely used, with many of the best stallions now able to offer chilled semen. Although A.I. is not necessarily a cheaper or easier option than a natural service, there are many benefits which make A.I. worthy of consideration when planning a breeding programme.

Duncrahill Stud has been offering A.I. since 1998. Mares are taken in, with or without foals at foot and can either stay at the stud or come in on a walk in basis when required. Mares requiring to stay over can either be kept in small paddocks or in our large, safe, cattle courts.

Our facilities have been purpose built to ensure that scanning and insemination can be undertaken safely and with as little stress to the mare as possible. Mares are constantly monitored to ensure the optimum insemination time is achieved and our success rate has been high with 100% scanned in foal from 2005 to 2007
